Sports Connections Foundation (SCF), the charity that uses sport to inspire, educate and transform the lives of children and young people, has recently partnered with Watchlotto, the prize competition organisation. The partnership is a welcome boost to the charity, as Watchlotto will donate a percentage of their profits each month to support SCF in running their various programmes.
Based in Peterborough but supporting children throughout the UK and internationally, Sports Connections Foundation was set up in 2010 by former professional footballer Junior McDougald, with a goal to use sport to inspire young people and support vulnerable and disadvantaged children. The charity run several sport related programmes including: Sporting Wishes for children facing life-threatening illnesses and creating positive exit routes for those experiencing mental health struggles, social isolation and economic deprivation through the Inspire Through Sport mentoring. The addition of Watchlotto as a charity partner enabled the charity to continue to support children and young people and extend these programmes.
Founded in 2018, Watchlotto has a vision to give people the opportunity to win luxury watches and create a community feel to competitions. With a recent relaunch in 2021, they are back bigger than ever and aim to reward as many players as possible with their top prizes. The organisation is also dedicated to supporting local communities and charities that are close to their heart, and as a result have chosen to partner SCF to support their programmes and ultimately help thousands of children who benefit from the charity’s work.
SCF’s income and engagement manager Karen Olden said: “We are delighted to welcome Watchlotto onboard as a partner. Sports Connections Foundation’s work wouldn’t be possible without the support of our generous partners, and so the addition of an organisation like Watchlotto gives us a massive boost, and most importantly enable use to support and inspire more children and young people through our different programmes. We look forward to our future with Watchlotto as a charity partner.”
Watchlotto director Deborah Hegarty said: “One of our main motivations for us here at Watchlotto is to be able to give back and support our local communities and charities in need. Each year we choose charities close to our heart and donate a percentage of our profits to them monthly, and this year Sports Connections Foundation is one of our chosen charities. We are very proud to be working with a children’s charity that does so much to inspire, empower, educate and transform the lives of young people. They believe that sport is one of the most powerful tools on the planet and has the greatest impaoct on the lives of children when used for social good, and this is something everyone here at Watchlotto can get behind.”
Deborah has always been very passionate about coaching and developing young people, after a football coaching career that saw her begin at Ipswich at the age of 16 and lead her over to America where she worked alongside MLS (Major League Soccer). This experience showcased the importance of sport in building confidence and self-esteem in children, making SCF an easier choice for Watchlotto.
